Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medicine technique that uses needles to move Qi or life force through the body’s meridians. From a western medicine perspective, we now understand that the placement of needles causes physiologic changes in the body such as the stimulation of nerves, changes in blood circulation and the release of chemical mediators that help with pain and improve healing. In animals, acupuncture is commonly used to treat musculoskeletal problems like arthritis, intervertebral disc disease, and traumatic nerve injuries. It can also be used to help treat internal disease like gastrointestinal problems, kidney disease and respiratory disease.
Dr. Nicole Salloum is a certified veterinary acupuncturist who received her training from the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society (IVAS) in 2024. She is pleased to offer acupuncture in conjunction with western medicine to bring increased comfort and wellbeing to her cat and dog patients at Oaklands.
